Jim VanHoesen

1940 - 2014

Jim Van Hoesen age 74 of Moltke Township
passed away September 11, 2014 at home.

He was born August 27, 1940 in Grand Rapids
to Kenneth and Ruth (Collier) Van Hoesen.

Jim graduated from Cedar Springs High School, attended
Central Michigan University to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Science
Education, and later Michigan State University to complete his Master’s
degree in Geography.

Jim met his future wife, Jan Kline, in a Mammology class at
Michigan State. Jim left for military service, but Jan wrote to him and
“the rest is history.” They were married April 3, 1965 and spent 49 years
together, The newlyweds completed their education and wrote to schools
all over Michigan and moved to Rogers City when they were both hired.
Jim retired from Rogers City Schools after 28 years to focus on his family
and favorite past-times — fishing, camping, traveling, and family
genealogy.

Jim is survived by:
his wife, Jan;
2 sons, John (Lori) of Grand Ledge and
Jay (Nicole Bowen) of Grand Rapids;
5 grandchildren, Adam, Mary, Victoria, Clara, and Elizabeth;
2 sisters-in-law, Pamela Dengler of North Carolina and
Alberta Rivera of Montana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Ruth; and
brother, Jack.

A memorial service was held at the Beck Funeral Home on Monday,
September 15th, Pastor James Brabson officiating, followed by a military
tribute offered by the Rogers City VFW Post 607.
