Charles Morrish

1917 - 2012

Charles R.J. Morrish, 95, of Cheboygan
passed away on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 at home, from cancer.

He was born on June 9, 1917
to Harriet (Gillespie) and John Morrish in Burton Township.

In his early years, he owned a farm in Flushing. He married Elnora Wauvle on
March 7, 1941. Of all his occupations during his lifetime, his great love was
farming and he was most excellent at it. In 1953, he sold out, however, with plans to
take his family to Idaho and purchase a farm there. The family headed north through
Michigan, however, when they reached as far as Black Lake, Elnora wouldn’t
continue as the polio epidemic was in full swing and people were advised to stay
home and not travel at all. The family spent the summer at Black Lake State Park
in a tent and small trailer. Now “Chuck” had to make a living.

He built a two-room cabin at Five Mile Point on Black Lake and purchased a
hardware store in Cheboygan at the comer of Division and Huron streets.

He renamed it “The Longhorn Hardware” and ran it many years with his wife
Elnora as they raised their family in Cheboygan. Eventually he sold out and retired.

He is survived by:
one brother, John Morrish of Webberville;
one daughter, Sherry (Jeff) Passeno of Cheboygan; and
two sons, Tom (Rochelle) Morrish of Cheboygan and
Charles (Marlene) Morrish of Albuquerque, NM.
Four grandchildren also survive: Kane Morrish, Zachary Morrish, both of Cheboygan;
Elizabeth (Timm) Little of Albuquerque; and
John Morrish of Albuquerque.
Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Ryan Little of Albuquerque.

The Beck Funeral Home of Rogers City is providing cremation services for the family.
No other service will be held, M
